Warface: Free-To-Play Shooter With Stunning Visuals Coming From Crytek Kiev

Crytek who? That's Crytek Kiev, a wholly owned subsidiary of Crytek, the games house famous for Crysis and Far Cry. It looks like what they've done here is embrace the free-to-play (F2P) model for what looks like a triple A-rated first person shooter.

Built on CryEngine 3, it has hyper-realistic graphics as is expected of Crytek and is a military shooter set in the near future. Based on preview coverage, it appears that Warface players will be able to cooperate against AI in Player vs. Environment (PvE) situations, massive boss fights and competitive, fast-paced Player vs. Player (PvP) action.

While the base game is obviously free, there's no information currently available on what items will be charged for. However, the game supports the real-time customization of weapons to adapt to changing battlefield conditions, therefore, it seems likely that weapon and armor customization will feature prominently in the game and will be charged for.

So, will Warface be a success? For the F2P business model, the fan-based community that builds around it is all important. Therefore, Crytek Kiev would do well to ensure that their fans are well served with good social features, development tools and a smoothly running bug-free game.

Below, is a rather impressive trailer for Warface. Note the copyright date of 2010 at the end. This game has been in development for over a year now, so is no bargain bin title and should impress when it's released later this year in North America.
