Jaw-droppingly realistic
Japanese developer Yosi has released the second version of his free Rigid Gems demo. So, what's so special about it? It's jaw-dropping realism, that's what. The demo renders the jewels in realtime using a hybrid of DirectX11 and raytracing to render the most lifelike animation I've ever seen. It can be controlled with the mouse and various effects turned on and off.

The demo requires a Core i5 CPU or higher and a high end DX11 graphics card such as a GTX 680 or HD 7970 and Windows Vista or 7, along with 1GB RAM.

A simplified version of the demo will be viewable in a web browswer too, but that's not been released yet.

The demo can be downloaded here.

Wow, when I first saw the screenshots, I did think, whats some diamond encrusted pocket watch got to do with tng, then realized its a render.

Will definitely have to give this a try later.

I'll be checking this out on the SLi'd 680's later!

Edit:

Runs like a dream on my 7850 @1200mhz : ]

60* locked default window size, 45 or so full screen. ( well maximised )

*edit* Can run multiple instances of this :D

Just ran two at a time one ran about 31 fps the other at 15.

Could be a nice way of loading up different GPUS evenly.

DOF like in everything else I've seen so far is shite. lol

* Aside from the sparkly watch part.

The physics is also pretty iffy, but its still amazing to see the graphical quality from such a small file.

I still haven't run it yet - and I'm the one who reported it!

Looks like it runs pretty sweet, though.

I think there is some coding errors as every now and then something will just shoot off lol
